Blog Post 13

ALEX is a resource designed for assisting teachers. ALEX is divided up into eight different components. First, is course of study. There you will find a link for all the subjects taught (English, Social Studies..etc) and the course of study grade level appropriate. The next link is called Web Resources which is a link to other resource links directed for teachers. Some links listed includes: Health/Physical Education, Career/Technical Education among others. These links are designed to help equip teachers to be the best teachers possible. The next link is Lesson Plans. This link is designed to answer any questions regarding how to write and carry out a lesson plan in the classroom. There is a personal workplace link, proffesional learning link, Podcast treasury and Alexvile link. I found ALEX to be a great help and resource for teachers. The website was easy to access and find information on.

The ACCESS program 's goal is to create equity through additional educational offerings for all Alabama public high school students. The website offers course offerings, test prep and many educational resources for helping students engage in learning. I found this website to be very helpful and full of useful information for students, parents and teachers. Easy to use and useful tools to use for encouraging quality education.

Additional Assignment #5

In the blog posts made by Mr. Spencer, there were many thought provoking ideas, comments, beliefs and attitudes presented that spark interest in an educators mind. As educators, we are not trying to reinvent the wheel of education, we are sinply trying to take what we have and add new tools to encourage and help cultivate effective and engaging education. As teachers we are to represent not only helpful change but a listening ear. We should be listening to our students and how they learn best. We are to bridge the gap of ineffective, unchallenging subject matter and bring it to life through the resources and tools we have available.

The student I commented on was for Aaron. He was a seventh grader who loves Harry Potter. The post I commented on was about the movie Cars. The movie does display this value and I encouraged Aaron to consider this aspect of the movie seriously. True friendship is a great characteristic to possess.

Mcclungs World on CNN was the title of the post I commented on. Mr. Mcclung's website was noticed by CNN. I commented by saying that you never know when your thoughts or opinions might be noticed by others.Perhaps by accident or for a greater purpose your thoughts may be used. I thought he had a great post and blog presented for all to observe.

Summary Post C4T #3

The teacher I had was Morgan Bayda a Elementary school teacher in Canada.
The first post I commented on was about her trip to Costa Rica and help do community work with them. She did lots of planting and baking along with craft projects. Ms. Bayda was very involved with the school children there in the community. It was a time for her to give back and help encourage a community. I told Ms. Bayda that I was encouraged to see her and others reaching out to other communities. Helping others is so rewarding!

The second post I read was again about her experience in Costa Rica. She worked with many children in the local school and experienced so much. She made the statement life is full of choices and that is so true. We have the choice to make a difference with our life or not. As teachers we have the opportunity to change the lives of so many students. We can bring change and help the success of this generation.

Summary

Out of 14 students that took the survey, I found that the results were accurate to my predictions. Most of the students had a facebook account. Most students felt that social networking can be used in an engaging way in the classroom. There was a split in the responses regarding the issue of Youtube being a safe educational website for all students. Youtube offers many educational videos and resources, however some content on Youtube may not be appropriate for all students.

I have learned from this survey that social networking can be used in the classroom. Many students feel that this can be used and be effective for today's students. How can we be the best possible teachers for this generation? Find what will engage them to learn. Modern technology and resources will do this task and will open up a brand new way to learn.

A Vision of K-12 Students Today

Blog Post 12

"A Vision of K- 12 Students Today"

Watch this video and write a three paragraph response to what you have seen. Write about your thoughts and what you can apply to your teaching strategy through this video.

My Response

I feel like this video is very inspiring and challenging to current and upcoming teachers for several reasons. The first point that really challenged me was the fact that students are digital learners. There are so many resources out there today to engage a student in learning. Ebooks are a great resource to use in the classroom. So many books have gone digital and I feel this is a great way to listen and comprehend.

A second point I really liked was the statistics presented about how so many individuals do not graduate from high school and end up working so many jobs. Why is this? There are many reasons, however, students should never say school is boring. As teachers we have to engage our students in learning. Obviously, we are going to have some students that will not want to engage, but we must always try. We must always present our best effort to help encourage the academic success and future of our students.

Another point I really liked about the video was all the various digital electronics presented in the video. A camera, computer, ipod, e-readers,blogging,etc. This type of interactive teaching is what todays students want and need. Allowing the students to interact through blogging with other students and schools opens up a brand new way of learning and engaging in the classroom. Allowing students to create a "lesson" on a particular subject matter and teaching to the class opens up interaction, communication and self confidence. Using todays tools that students are so involved with, and using it for academic purposes only makes sense. Students are wanting to learn, it is up to us to evaluate, think and act on what we have learned and continue to learn about this generation.

Blog Post 11

"Little Kids, Big Potential"

This video really captured the wonderful resources of technology being utilized in the classroom.
The first example was the students using a blog for educational purposes. The webpages layed out for the students were very beneficial for the students. They would be able to sharpen many different skills through these resources. Wikis are great pages to utilize. These pages are very creative and fun to use for learning.  Videos and Skype are great resources to use. Teachers can connect with other classrooms and teachers to share various subject matter through Skype and videos. Ms. Cassidy is definetly utilizing a variety of resources that are extremely beneficial to the students. This type of instruction and learning is the best way for students to comprehend and maintain. This hands on approach is the best way to hold the attention of students. As I teacher, I would love to implement these ideas and concepts to the classroom. I feel this is the best way for the students to learn. Interaction with others and other technology invokes thought and effort to challenge and encourage excellence.
